The Elsdocia, Sword of the Wizard King from Black Clover, built as a commission for a cosplay, at 1.2m.

The client wanted a 'faceted glass' glow, which meant the whole blade had to be translucent, and every seam and internal support would show once lit. The blade was modelled with angular facets inside and out, with the seams lined up along the facet lines to hide them.

Inside, a 5050 neopixel strip animates the glow, powered by a built-in 18650 rechargeable cell. The blade prints in translucent PETG.

Development

The client asked for a blade that lights up with a 'faceted glass' effect. That meant making the whole blade from translucent material: any seams or internal supports would show once the LEDs were on.

I modelled the blade with angular sections inside and out, so the light catches the facets from every direction.

The seams were the tricky part: I lined them up with the angled facet sections so they barely show when lit. The client was very happy with the result.

As with many of my projects, I used a high-quality rechargeable 18650 battery to power the string of 5050 neopixel LEDs. A USB-C port was stealthily placed for recharging the battery, along with a small switch for power control. The end result was a tidy, visually stunning build that exceeded expectations.
