Thundercats – Sword of Omens

The Sword of Omens – in both it’s dagger form and full-size form – fully to scale and with a glowing Eye of Thundera!
Development of both forms
Along with the Legend of Zelda Guardian Sword, the Sword of Omens from Thundercats was one of the projects that inspired me in the early days. It was such an iconic piece that it had to be recreated.
I had of course seen this done before, there were a few versions out there, but the quality just wasn't there. They either lacked in features, or in accuracy, or were simply low quality in general. Of course, my own early efforts weren't perfect either, but over time and a few iterations I finally got it to a point where I was extremely pleased with how it looked.
I didn't really keep any photos of the original efforts to create this, as they largely weren't worth recording for posterity. I tend to lump them all together in a 'version 1.0' label, with the first models I was actually pleased with becoming the 'v2.0'.

V2 of the Sword of Omens
At this point, I also started designing and putting together a design for the 'dagger' form of the Sword of Omens. Because of the partially modular way I had designed the Sword, there were some shortcuts I could take in creating the dagger, certain parts that could be used for both models. Mostly in the hilt and part of the grip, particularly those parts that housed the electronic components.
From this point, the project largely continued with smaller iterations. Some refining of the design, improving the internal structure for the electronics, and making changes to the individual parts so that they printed more cleanly and at a higher quality.
And so the current versions, shown in the gallery below, came into existence! Still not perfect perhaps, I'm always finding ways to refine and improve my projects each time I recreate them, but so far everyone who has one has been extremely pleased with the results!
