Black Clover : Elsdocia
A custom project request to design and create a full-scale replica of the Elsdocia, Sword of the Wizard King, from the anime series Black Clover. Includes a translucent glowing glass-style blade!
Development
This project presented unique design challenges, as the client requested that the blade light up with a 'faceted glass' effect. To achieve this, the entire blade had to be made from translucent materials, meaning that any seams and internal support structures could be visible when the LEDs were lit.

To create the 'faceted glass' effect, I modelled the blade with both internal and external angular sections. This design aimed to catch both external and internal lighting, enhancing the faceted appearance.
For the seams, I decided to integrate them into the faceted design. By aligning the seams with the angled sections of the blade, they became less noticeable and blended seamlessly into the overall look. The client was incredibly pleased with the final result, which met their specifications perfectly.
This led into the creation of the V1.0 creation below!
As with many of my projects, I used a high-quality rechargeable 18650 battery to power the string of 5050 neopixel LEDs. A USB-C port was stealthily placed for recharging the battery, along with a small switch for power control. The end result was a tidy, visually stunning build that exceeded expectations.
I then went to work on a series of refinements and improvements for the V2.0 version of the design. Most of the improvements were mechanical, rather than visual, such as improving and strengthening the design of the internal connection points, and the method of running and fixing the internal electronics. But it also gave me the opportunity to take a better round of pictures for the new gallery!
