Legend of Zelda – Hookshot & Clawshot (v3.0)

July 19, 2026

The Hookshot and the Clawshot, two of the most iconic items in the Legend of Zelda franchise, brought to life!

Development

The earliest iteration of the Hookshot, I don't actually have any pictures of, but it was pretty basic. Just figuring out rough dimensions and blocking out shapes. After some trial and error, I did manage to put together a pretty solid interpretation of the general concept, bringing the 64-bit graphics from the old Ocarina of Time days into the modern Breath of the Wild 'Sheikah technology' era.
The old v2 design.
This design used the general design shapes from the Ocarina and Skyward Sword games and combined them with some Sheikah decoration and characters. The end result turned out even better than I expected, with the gold really popping against the blue of the main body. The silver and steel for the blades and handle also really shone, making for a really eye-catching piece. I was pretty happy with it, though there were (as always) a few rough edges I wanted to improve upon.
For version 3.0 I worked mostly on just tidying up those small flaws. The leather-bound grip now has ringed edges to hide the ends of the leather strapping I use, and the connection points for the claw are now sturdier and more adjustable. The little things that make it stand out as just a little bit more 'complete'.
However, there are already plans in the works for a more elaborate v4.0. The one part that I'm still not happy with is the chain, as I was using a pre-purchased part for that up until now, and the quality was not perfect. So I have designed a new chain of my own, which looks a lot better. And the other thing to improve...?

Well, how about real brass for the Sheikah engravings?

If I manage to figure it out and pull it off, I will of course add an update.
